WRFC 10’s Rugby Festival 2022
Standard World Rugby rules apply as per the 10’s variation rules. Where deemed appropriate there have been some minor event variations applied for safety reasons.
The ethos of this festival is a blow out of off season cobwebs, with the emphasis on the festival and social side. We want you all to have an enjoyable and positive experience.
Team numbers:
- Each team has no more than 10 players in the playing area during play.
- A team may nominate up to five replacements.
- A team may replace any number of players during a match at any time. Players may enter the pitch at any point, but it must be at the same point as the departing player leaves and may not occur before the departing player exits. Sanction: Penalty to opposing team
Age restrictions:
- Womens:
- Mens:
- O35s: This is a social section and you must be 35 or over at the time of the festival.
Match length:
- A match will last 20 minutes (split into two halves each of not more than 10 minutes) plus time lost.
- There will be no extra-time played, except in final matches. Where required, play restarts after one minute break with periods of no more than 5 minutes with change of end after each period. After two periods the game ends and count back to determine the winner as follows: 1st try. If no tries, first score will declare the winner.
- Half time consists of an interval of 2 minutes.
Scoring:
- When a try is scored, it gives that team the right to attempt a conversion, which must be a drop kick and may be from behind or in front of the post as marked by the referee.
- A kick must be taken within 30 seconds (playing time) from the time the try was scored. Sanction: Kick is disallowed.
- All opposing players immediately assemble close to their own 10 metre line at a conversion. Sanction: If the opposing team at a conversion attempt infringes but the kick is successful, the goal stands. If the kick is unsuccessful, the kicker retakes the conversion and the opposing team is not allowed to charge.
Penalty kick:
- The kick must be taken within 30 seconds (playing time) from the time the team indicated their intention to do so. Sanction: Kick is disallowed and a scrum awarded to opposition.
- A kick must be a drop kick. Sanction: Scrum to opposition
Extra time:
- In extra time the team that scores points first is immediately declared the winner, without any further play.
Yellow and Red Cards:
- When a player is being cautioned and suspended for two minutes, the referee will show the player a yellow card.
- If the player later commits another yellow card offence, the player must be sent off. When the player is being sent off, the referee will show the player a red card and the player will take no further part in the match. A player sent off may not be replaced.
Kick offs and restarts:
- After a team has scored, the same team restarts with a drop kick on or behind the centre of the half-way line. The restart kick must be taken within 30 seconds from the time a conversion has been attempted or declined, or from the time a penalty goal or dropped goal is kicked. Sanction: Free kick to opposition
- Team mates of the kicker must be behind the ball. Sanction: Free kick to opposition

Scrum:
- A scrum must have 5 players in two rows from each team. The front row consists of two props and a hooker and the second row consists of two locks. All five must stay bound to the scrum until it ends and may not unbind to play the ball. Sanction: Penalty
- For safety reasons – O35 scrums will be uncontested.
- A scrum ends when the ball is played by that teams scrum half. The ball must go to scrum half and may not be picked by any scrum participants.
Penalty and free kick:
- The kicker may punt or drop-kick the ball but may not place kick it.
